The Chattanooga Tea Party and North GeorgiaTea Parties is pleased to announce The Tax Day Essay Contest to help generate citizen interest in reading and understanding The Constitution in context with current events.
The contest is open to the public, with entries divided into three divisions: College, High School (grades 9-10), High School (grades 11-12).
Central Theme: “What are the principles of liberty enshrined by our Founding Fathers in the Constitution and how have we departed from them.” Used as a title or part of a title, the central theme does not count toward your word count.
Criteria: No more than 500 words, double-spaced, word-processed (or clearly printed if computer is unavailable), using black ink in size 12 font) faxed to (423) 305-1304 by no later than Friday, 5 p.m. (ET), April 9, 2010. A completed cover sheet (see below) must accompany the fax. Alternatively, the writer may scan and email the essay and completed cover sheet to firstname.lastname@example.org. Each page of the essay must have the writer’s name at the top left followed by a blank line (does not count in the word count).
References: Please credit any references used on a separate sheet of paper and this page does not count toward your word-count.
General: All writers must complete the accompanying cover sheet and submit it along with their essays; essayists age 17 or less must also include the name of their parent or guardian and the signature of the parent on the completed cover sheet.
The writer may NOT use partisan words such as Democrat or Republican, as the tea party movement is non-partisan. If you care to refer to our webpage it is: www.ChattanoogaTeaParty.com. Please stick closely to the central theme.
Winners in each division will be notified in advance and announced at the April 15th Tax Day rally being held in Chattanooga’s Coolidge Park in the late afternoon / early evening. The winners may be allowed to read their own essays at the discretion of the CTP Team with any parent guidance/support as appropriate.
