CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Jan. 15) – An East Ridge family that was victimized in their home this week by an intruder and was forced to resort to use their gun in self defense will speak at the Chattanooga Tea Party meeting this Thursday.
As the nation continues to grapple with the matter of gun control, earlier this week a gun may have saved the lives of an East Ridge family. In the wee hours of Sunday morning, the Davenport family was awakened by an intruder banging and breaking glass at their front door. Despite Mr. Davenport confronting the intruder with a gun, he continued his effort to break into their home. Warning shots were fired and ultimately the intruder was subdued by the family and arrested by the police when they arrived a few minutes later.
Mrs. Davenport and her Father, who also confronted the intruder with his gun and fired a warning shot, will share their harrowing experience with the Chattanooga Tea Party this Thursday.
Mark West, President of the Chattanooga Tea Party, commented, “Given the high pitched and emotional discussions that are taking place in Washington and around the country, including calls for increasing gun controls on law abiding citizens, the Davenport’s experience demonstrates one of several reasons our Founding Fathers memorialized that ‘the right of people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.’”
The meeting will take place at The Century Club Banquet Hall, 3221 Harrison Pike (off Access Road, just south of the Highway 153-Amnicola Highway intersection, next to The Lighting Gallery).
Media are invited to cover this and all Chattanooga Tea Party monthly membership meetings.
Please RSVP at Chattanooga Tea Party’s Facebook page (link at ChattanoogaTeaParty.com). Donations will be accepted at the event to help defray costs.
